Question:

My boyfriend got me a 6 string banjo with a closed back, and i was so excited. the only problem is i am having trouble finding learning tools to help me. i have no musical background, and at the moment am frustrated because i want to learn so bad but have no aid. i was impressed with your site and hoping you would have some advice for me!!

Answer:

Your new 6 string banjo is probably tuned like a guitar. There are such things as a banjitar and I’m guessing this is what you have.

On this site we focus on the 5-string banjo or bluegrass banjo as some call it. If you like the style that your hearing around this site then you might try to pick up another 5 string or you might be able to put a 5 string neck on the banjo that your boyfriend gave you.

In case your wondering there is also a 4 string banjo which is more of a jazz style banjo. Very cool! Let us know if you come up with a 5 string and we’ll get you on your way.

Thanks,
Ryan
