How To Tune Your Banjo

Hello, one of the 1st things you’ll want to do with your banjo if your just starting out is to get it into tune.  The strings ordered in pitch from the highest pitch to lowest is as follows:  5th string G, 1st string D, 2nd string, B, 3rd string G, and 4th string D.

When you tune be sure to match the strings that are tuned in octaves such as the G and D strings.  Then just tune your B string at the 3rd fret to the 1st string and your done.  Getting your banjo in tune is imperative and it’s something you’ll become very familiar with as time progresses.  It really will become second nature.

I have a very detailed tuning routine that I’ll be posting later in the month.  I would say stay tuned for the posting but it just wouldn’t be right.  You can also find this routine on our “more lessons” page.  You can get access to this page through the blue banner over on the right sidebar.  Have fun tuning.

If you’re a more experienced student and would like to post some tuning tips feel free to email them to me at ryan@banjoexpert.com and I’ll get them up on the blog.

 OK, Stay Tuned!
