There are several things you should look for when you buy a new banjo. In this lesson we talk about just a few of them, but not all. There is more to come. I’ve also added a few bonus setup tips in this video as well. Enjoy.

Hi, Do you have any knowledge on “Aria” banjo’s? I am currently borrowing one from a guy who might sell it to me for the right price. I really like it. It sounds so much better than the Fender I was borrowing before. This Aria was made in Japan, it’s super heavy and has abalone inlay up the neck. Based on the research I’ve done on the internet I think it could be a 1970′s Pro (ii) but there isn’t anything written on it. I would like to make an offer on this banjo but I don’t want to offer too low..or too high..:)..

Lynn, it’s so good to hear from you. I often think about playing music at your house and at the festival we went to. I’ll see what I can do. I’m not much of a singer but maybe I can post a song or two. I hope you’re doing well and still playing music here and there. Next time I go through KC I’m going to look you up. It would sure be fun to visit again. Tell Ty I said hello.

Hey Ryan,
I look on youtube every now and then just to see if you ever put out a video with you just playing and singing a song. It’d be good to see and hear you play. How ’bout “Love of the Mountains” in memory of Darryl C.?

Hi Ryan,

I had a problem with my banjo strap coming loose because the threaded screw came out on one end. Ended up using a couple drops of locktight thread compound and haven’t had a problem since.
