Matt, this doesn’t sound good to me. If you want I can take a look at it for you via webcam but I would suggest taking it completely off and look it over real good for cracks around the outside rim and then re-install it if you’re not wanting to put a new one on. I probably needs to come off to get it back on correctly. I would get the book called “The best sounding banjo” by Roger Siminoff.

Hi Ryan, First off thanks for all the great work, I really like the site.
Next a queston about my Banjo head. There’s a ripple at the 3 oclock position that looks like the head’s not tight enough. Does this have an ill effect on the sound quality?, and how do I fix it without overtightening and ruining the head.
How do I know the head is tight enough and does the tension change with high humidity? ( I live in Wisconsin).
