Excellent question! You start the roll over on the 3rd string. You can continue the roll on to the 5th string, but you have to resolve it in following measures. This is a much more complex way of looking at it that will actually come naturally once you’ve got some hours of playing under your belt. Keep up the good work! Don’t get to wrapped up in the count. Just keep rolling and get the timing steady.

I have a question about the rolls. When you have completed an 8 note forward roll (3-1-5-3-1-5-3-1) do you continue with the pattern and pick a 5 string or do you start the roll over with a 3 string? Does that make sense? (31531531-53153153) or (31531531-31531531) when playing continually.
